Access (incoming network connections to the VDS server) to ports 135 (RPC, DCOM), 137-139 (NetBIOS), 455 (microsoft-ds) is blocked to counter the most common virus attacks on these ports that exploit vulnerabilities in system services. For the vast majority of tasks, access to these server ports is not needed. It does not affect outgoing connections from the server at all (from your VDS you can connect to any port) and imposes virtually no restrictions.
However, if you are a network security expert, are ready to take responsibility for your actions and are sure that you definitely need these ports unblocked (for example, you want to use network share, NetBIOS, etc.), contact technical support and we will open access for your VDS
If you use your VDS to host an MSSQL server, please note that access to the "default" port (1433) is also blocked. This is because an MSSQL server without the latest updates contains serious vulnerabilities through which the server can be infected with a virus before you even manage to download and install all the necessary updates. After installing all updates, you can contact technical support to have port 1433 unblocked. That said, we strongly recommend changing the port to a non-standard one and using that.
Please remember that if your server is infected with malware, it will be automatically blocked as soon as outgoing malicious network traffic or port / network scanning from it is detected. The server's administrator bears responsibility for all consequences of the server being infected / compromised, just as for their own actions.
