The most common reason a .NET Framework installation (versions 2.x, 3.x or 4.x) fails is downloading the wrong installer from the Microsoft website.

For Windows Server 2003 you need to download the English(!) 32-bit version, and for Windows Server 2008 the English(!) 64-bit version. Once again, please note that you must download the English version, since all operating systems on our VDS are English with a Russian MUI.

The second most common reason is incompatibility between the .NET Framework versions you are installing, for example if you first installed version 4.5 and then try to install version 2.0. It can also happen that a version previously installed on the system prevents another version from being installed. In this case we recommend strictly following Microsoft's guidance on the installation order of this software and taking the compatibility system requirements into account. If you have gotten completely tangled up, cannot fully clean the system of the various framework versions installed, etc., do a full reinstall of the server and install the version you need on a "clean" server. In that case there will be no installation problems at all.

Below are some download links for the frameworks on the Microsoft website:

.NET Framework v2.0 (for Windows Server 2003; preinstalled by default on Windows Server 2008)

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86) 32-bit version for Windows Server 2003; on 2008, .NET Framework v2.0 x64 is already installed!

.NET Framework v3.x and 4.x come as a single package for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Redistributable Package
Microsoft.Net Framework 3.5 Redistributable Package

Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer)

Note: on Windows Server 2008, framework version 3.5 must be installed via Roles / Features management (in the "Server Manager" snap-in, select "Features" in the left menu, then "Add Features" on the right, expand ".NET Framework 3.5.1 Features" in the list and check ".NET Framework 3.5.1", then click "Next" and "Install"), i.e. you do not need to download an installer!

Important: after installing the version you need, do not forget to install the available updates and service packs (SP) for it. Use Windows Update or the Microsoft website for more information.

Installation of the framework version you need by our administrator costs 5 EUR. A "clean" server is a mandatory requirement for the installation. If you have already tried to install the framework yourself, or another "unneeded" or "broken" framework version is installed on the system, installing the required version without reinstalling the VDS will cost 20 EUR.

Please note that we do NOT provide advice on framework compatibility, updates or problems with how they work; we do not know which framework version you need, which versions you already have installed, or how to remove/clean them up. To find out which version you need, contact the software vendor. If you run into any problems, reinstall the VDS and do a clean install of the framework you need.
