MSSQL is installed the same way as on any other server or on your own computer: download the installer, run it, and so on.

You can download MSSQL Express (the free edition) from the official website http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/en/us/editions/express.aspx, and other MSSQL Server versions from http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/en/us/get-sql-server/try-it.aspx The bitness of the product must match the OS installed on the VDS (2003 is 32-bit, 2008 is 64-bit).

You can install it yourself, or we can do it for you. Installation of the MSSQL Server version you specify by our administrator costs 20 EUR. Please note that you pay only for the installation (we do not configure, maintain or administer MSSQL, and we do not provide consulting on working with it!).

Note: if you choose an edition other than the free MSSQL Express, a trial version from the official Microsoft website is installed. We do NOT provide MSSQL Server licenses.

Also note that for stable and efficient operation of MSSQL the recommended amount of RAM is 1 GB or more: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506%28SQL.105%29.aspx

Note: by default, network access to port 1433 (the port MSSQL Server uses by default for incoming connections) is blocked to protect MSSQL Server from possible attacks exploiting its vulnerabilities! If you are not sure you can guarantee its security, we recommend using a non-standard port.
